A pregnancy scan is an ultrasound examination that assesses how the pregnancy is progressing. At Aleris Fertility, we offer both early scans and what many call safety scans.

An early scan is typically relevant if you have not yet been scanned and want to confirm the pregnancy. An safety scan is for those who have already had a scan—perhaps somewhere else—but want to make sure that everything still looks normal.

During a pregnancy scan, the doctor assesses, among other things:

• Whether the pregnancy is correctly positioned in the uterus
• Whether there is one or more foetus(es)
• Whether there is a heartbeat (from week 6)
• How far you are in your pregnancy based on the measurement of the foetus
• Expected due date

You will of course receive a printout of the ultrasound images, and you are welcome to record a video with your phone during the scan.

When you receive a pregnancy scan with us, you will always be scanned by an experienced specialist. Our doctors have special expertise in pregnancy and fertility and extensive experience in scanning pregnant women.

We use modern ultrasound equipment and focus on creating a calm, safe environment—both for those who are receiving a scan for the very first time and for those who have tried it before.

The scan itself is done with vaginal ultrasound, as it provides the most accurate image, especially during the first weeks of pregnancy.

A pregnancy scan with us is about giving you peace of mind and a snapshot of the pregnancy, but it does not replace the examinations carried out through public healthcare. You should therefore be aware that we do not offer neck fold scanning or deformity scanning. We also do not offer gender scanning.
