PCO/PCOS is the most common hormonal disorder in women of childbearing age, and it often gives rise to fertility problems. Therefore, there is no reason to wait a long time before seeking help to become pregnant.
What is PCOS?
PCOS (PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome) is a hormonal disorder. The disorder causes an imbalance in the hormonal system, in which the ratio between the sex hormones that govern egg maturation (the FSH hormone) and ovulation (the LH hormone), respectively, is changed so that there is too little of the FSH hormone and too much of the LH hormone. This means that the ovary is not stimulated enough to develop one dominant egg sac (follicle), ovulation does not occur and the woman cannot become pregnant. The elevated LH value also means that the male sex hormone is too high, which may produce undesired hair growth in some women. Read more about women’s menstrual cycle.
